In a move aimed at improving healthcare access in the hill districts, Manipal Hospitals has introduced free teleconsultation for first-time patients and free second opinions for cancer surgeries in Darjeeling. The initiatives were announced during an awareness session held under ‘Anveshana – Medical Education for Media’. Doctors said geographical challenges often delay treatment for hill residents, leading to late diagnosis and poorer outcomes.
Officials explained that free teleconsultation will allow patients in remote areas to speak to specialists without long travel. Follow-up consultations can be done either in person or through paid teleconsultation, ensuring continuity of care.
Hospital officials highlighted that the Rangapani facility now offers advanced radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery and intensive care for cancer patients.
