A recent militant attack on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur has escalated tensions along the India–Myanmar border. The incident took place in Tengnoupal district, where suspected People’s Liberation Army (PLA) militants opened fire on a patrolling team during the early morning hours. A Defence spokesperson reported that the attack was unexpected, prompting Assam Rifles personnel to return fire while prioritizing civilian safety. The militants subsequently retreated into Myanmar. Local reports indicated potential injuries among the personnel, though official statements have not confirmed casualties. In response, the Army launched extensive area domination and combing operations, deploying additional troops to enhance security measures. This attack follows a previous ambush in September in Bishnupur district that resulted in two fatalities, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.
