India probing alleged dumping of steel from China, Indonesia, etc.

India has launched an investigation into the alleged dumping of specific steel products from China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, following a complaint by domestic manufacturers. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), under the Commerce Ministry, has begun an anti-dumping probe into imports of “Cold rolled flat products of 300 and 400 series” from these nations.

The Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), representing domestic producers, filed the complaint, claiming that these imports are harming local industry. They have requested the imposition of anti-dumping duties on such imports.

Based on initial evidence provided, the DGTR stated there is sufficient ground to initiate the probe. The investigation will assess the extent and impact of the alleged dumping. If it confirms that domestic industry has suffered material injury, the DGTR may recommend anti-dumping duties.

The final decision rests with the Finance Ministry. The DGTR is also examining similar cases involving other products from China, as well as medical gloves from Malaysia and Thailand. Such investigations ensure fair trade and protect domestic industries under WTO guidelines.
