In a scathing response to recent criticism from the opposition Citizen Action Party (CAP), Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said Monday that his government is more than capable of running without uninvited advice. Speaking at a public event, Tamang avoided specifically identifying CAP, but his comments made it clear who the target was. “We are capable of managing the state. Amid growing political tensions between the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and CAP, he declared, “We do not need instructions from those sitting in the opposition.” Tamang has dismissed the opposition’s criticisms as unfounded due to the recent increase in attacks on the government’s policies and decision-making. He attacked political competitors, accusing them of being out of touch with the realities on the ground.
Some people only use Facebook once a week, spending the other six days in hiding. They say they have changed their political stance, but they haven’t made any progress. But they hope to win all 32 seats,” he said. Tamang compared seeking guidance from such individuals to “asking a student who has studied only up to class five to teach someone with a master’s degree” in a biting analogy. “We don’t require instruction on how to govern Sikkim or provide for its people,” he said. In addition, the Chief Minister related a personal story of his determination following his release from prison. “I didn’t waste a day, regardless of how many people told me. With all of my heart, I will serve the people of Sikkim,” he declared.
