Operation Himrahat: Indian Army evacuates stranded tourists in East Sikkim

In response to significant snowfall in East Sikkim, the Indian Army launched Operation Himrahat on Sunday to assist locals and tourists stranded by severe weather. The sudden snowfall and sub-zero temperatures left many tourist vehicles immobilized on precarious road segments, endangering the safety of civilians. The Army swiftly implemented relief operations, rescuing 46 tourists and relocating them to the nearest Army camp. At the camp, the rescued individuals received immediate medical assessments, warm shelter, meals, heating facilities, and essential relief supplies to address the effects of the cold and altitude. Medical teams ensured the stability and well-being of all rescued individuals prior to any further transportation. Additionally, the Army organized safe movements for over 150 tourist vehicles to secure areas, effectively regulating traffic, reducing panic, and minimizing exposure risks in the challenging high-altitude environment.
