Bajaj General Insurance Limited has expanded its health insurance portfolio with the launch of Fetal Flourish, a dedicated fetal health insurance rider aimed at covering advanced in-utero procedures and high-risk pregnancies. Announced in Pune on January 14, the rider is priced at an affordable premium of ₹1,025 and is offered with the company’s flagship products, My Health Care Plan and Health Guard.
The move addresses a long-standing gap in India’s maternity insurance market, which traditionally focuses on delivery and postnatal care while excluding fetal interventions during pregnancy. Fetal Flourish is applicable for women aged 18 to 45 years and carries a waiting period of nine months from policy inception. It provides coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per maternity event for the first two maternity events under the base health indemnity policy.
The rider covers 16 specialised in-utero procedures, including amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, fetal tissue biopsy, amnioinfusion and amnio-reduction, thoracoamniotic shunt for fetal pleural effusion, fetoscopy, fetoscopic laser surgery for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, fetal reduction, surgeries for neural tube defects, fetal cystoscopic surgery, FETO for congenital diaphragmatic hernia, amniotic band syndrome surgery, fetal aortic valvuloplasty, and intrauterine transfusion.
The launch comes amid changing maternal trends, with reports showing that around 17% of women in India give birth after the age of 35, increasing pregnancy-related risks and the need for advanced fetal care.
