Pakyong police arrested a 65-year-old man, Santosh Gurung, for allegedly m*rdering 36-year-old Bijay Chettri on July 24. The victim and accused were friends who had been staying in an under-construction building below Pakyong Bazaar for several days.
The murder occurred on the night of July 23, with police being informed about a b*dy found at around 5:20 pm the next day. The investigation was swiftly completed within six hours, aided by CCTV footage from a nearby building.
An inquiry revealed that the unidentified b*dy, covered with clothes and sacks, showed severe head injuries caused by blunt force, likely from a stone found blood-stained near the scene.
Pakyong SP Paru Ruchal, along with other officials, inspected the site. The accused, a long-time resident of Pakyong Bazaar, was arrested by 11:30 pm. The case was also registered for concealment of evidence due to attempts to hide the body.
The victim, a laborer from Namcheybong, was known to stay away from home. The post-mortem was conducted at STNM Hospital, and the investigation continues with all evidence secured.
