Sikkim @50 a Golden Jubilee for the nation, says CM Prem Singh Tamang

Sikkim’s Golden Jubilee is a moment of national pride, not just a state celebration, said Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang while addressing the India Today State of the States Conclave: Sikkim @50 – The Glorious Journey & The Illustrious Road Ahead on Wednesday. Marking 50 years since Sikkim’s merger with India in 1975, Tamang called it a “historic milestone for the entire nation.” He announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit the state on May 29 to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

“From a small kingdom to becoming a shining example of progress in the Indian Union, Sikkim has come a long way,” Tamang said. He highlighted his government’s work since 2019, despite the COVID-19 crisis, focusing on health, education, and infrastructure. Tamang outlined five key areas of future development: connectivity, education, health, agriculture, and employment. He revealed that Sikkim will get a railway link by 2026 and a new 500-bed hospital, to be inaugurated during PM Modi’s visit.

The CM also emphasized educational reforms under the National Education Policy and announced plans to set up one university in each constituency. He noted that Sikkim’s per capita income is now the highest in India, at ₹7,181.“Sikkim is fully committed to Viksit Bharat 2047,” he said.
