Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, joined Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma to unveil the North East Apprenticeship Pilot Scheme, a ₹43.94 crore initiative designed to enhance skill development and employment prospects for over 26,000 youth across the region. The scheme offers an additional ₹1,500 monthly stipend alongside the existing National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) benefits, encouraging participation and mobility within and beyond the North East.

Chaudhary highlighted the scheme’s emphasis on practical industry exposure, gender inclusivity, and aligning training with market demands, calling it a “transparent bridge to employment.” The program will be implemented through collaborations with the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) Guwahati and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Business leaders anticipate that the enhanced talent pool will drive productivity and attract greater investments, fostering economic growth in the region. The launch event also featured a strategic partnership between NSDC and Welspun Living Ltd to train 1,000 youth in textile sector skills, alongside a ₹60,000 crore plan for modernizing government ITIs nationwide.
