The 23rd Chief Minister’s Compound Archery Gold Cup 2025 began with great enthusiasm and community support at the Archery Range in Kartok, Pakyong. The event is being organized by the Pakyong District Archery Association in close collaboration with the District Administrative Centre, Pakyong.
This annual archery event has become a significant sporting fixture in Sikkim, bringing together talented archers from across the state. The competition not only promotes the ancient and traditional sport of archery but also provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and passion.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Sikkim State Co-operative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd. (SIMFED), who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, the Chairman extended his heartfelt best wishes to all the participating archers. He praised their dedication and hard work, calling it a true example of the spirit of sportsmanship.
He spoke about the importance of archery, noting that it is not just a local sport but one recognized at the Olympic level. The Chairman proudly mentioned the achievements of Sikkim’s own Tarundeep Rai, an Olympic medalist, who has become a role model for young archers in the region. “Tarundeep Rai’s success is proof that Sikkim’s youth can shine on the world stage,” he said.
The Chairman also took the opportunity to express his sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). He praised the Chief Minister for his continued support towards youth and sports development in the state. According to the Chairman, this support has helped many young sportspersons in Sikkim to pursue their dreams and grow in their fields.
As the event coincided with Good Friday, the Chairman also conveyed warm greetings to the people of Sikkim. He asked the people to reflect on the day’s meaning and encouraged unity and peace among communities. He said that events like this archery competition not only help promote sports but also bring people together, fostering a strong sense of community.
