Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri revealed on Monday, April 7, that the price of LPG cylinders has been raised by Rs 50 for both subsidized and non-subsidized consumers, which is a significant blow to the general public. Both Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) participants and non-beneficiaries are affected by the rise. On April 8, the updated prices will take effect. The cost per cylinder would increase from Rs 500 to Rs 550 for PMUY beneficiaries. It will go up from Rs 803 to Rs 853 for other customers, Puri stated. The revision is subject to periodic review, usually every two to three weeks, he noted.
Additionally, Puri explained that the recent increase in gasoline and diesel excise duties is not intended to harm customers. Rather, it is meant to partially compensate oil marketing businesses for a loss of Rs 43,000 crore brought on by subsidized gas prices. The change was made a few days after commercial LPG cylinders weighing 19 kg were priced at Rs 41 less by oil marketing companies (OMCs). The updated retail price of commercial LPG in Delhi is Rs 1,762 as a result of the change. This is a comfort because on March 1, OMCs raised the cost of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 6 in all major cities.
