SDF slams SKM government over financial irregularities, taxation and governance

The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government, accusing it of financial mismanagement, arbitrary governance, and increased taxation. At a press conference, SDF spokesperson M.N. Dahal highlighted a ₹1,900 crore discrepancy in the Consolidated Fund of Sikkim, citing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. He questioned the lack of action from the Governor and judiciary, demanding a transparent investigation.

SDF leader Yojana Rai criticized SKM’s budget allocation, alleging a drastic reduction in rural development funds, impacting village infrastructure and essential services. She accused the government of prioritizing publicity over governance. Another major concern raised was the recent electricity tariff hikes, which SDF compared to West Bengal’s industrial protests. Spokesperson Arun Limbu claimed that businesses and households were burdened with skyrocketing bills, leading to economic distress.

SDF also slammed SKM for its ban on trade license subletting, calling it a publicity stunt that lacks alternative solutions for affected businesses. The opposition further accused the ruling party of selectively implementing central laws based on political convenience.
