Khamri, a two-day pre-Namsoong event that ended on Sunday, immersed Gangtok in the hues and customs of Lepcha history. Both residents and visitors attended the celebration of the Lepcha community’s rich history, customs, and food, which was organized by Dzongu Heritage. Lungthen Saa, this year’s theme, emphasized the value of preserving culture and enhancing sense of community. Traditional dances, musical performances, and an exhibition featuring Lepcha artifacts and culinary specialties were among the highlights, providing a thorough understanding of the community’s rich cultural heritage.
Attending the occasion, Dzongu MLA and Minister for Forest and Environment Pintso Namgyal Lepcha emphasized its importance. “Khamri and similar events are essential to promoting and conserving our Lepcha history. They give younger generations a chance to get in touch with their heritage and educate people about our distinctive culture,” he said. The occasion acted as a reminder of the lasting legacy of the Lepcha people and the importance of preserving it for coming generations.
