SWITCH Mobility Ltd, the electric vehicle arm of Ashok Leyland, is making waves in the sustainable transportation sector with the launch of its two innovative electric city buses—the SWITCH EiV12 for India and the SWITCH E1 for Europe. The SWITCH EiV12, India’s first low-floor city bus with chassis-mounted batteries, offers an impressive 400+ kWh scalable battery capacity, tailored for urban commutes.
This game-changing bus was unveiled by ShriNitinGadkari, India’s Minister for Road Transport and Highways, and promises to deliver superior safety, comfort, and accessibility, featuring a design focused on women’s safety, CCTV cameras, and spaces for differently-abled passengers. Meanwhile, the SWITCH E1, engineered for the European market, stands out with its in-wheel motors and a triple-door design for smooth passenger flow.
With the Indian electric bus market set to grow at a CAGR of 21% by 2030, SWITCH Mobility is poised to become a market leader in the transition to eco-friendly public transportation. For Gangtok, the SWITCH EiV12 holds significant potential. As the city looks to address its growing environmental challenges and urban congestion, the introduction of electric buses could provide a solution for cleaner, more efficient public transport, improving both air quality and mobility in the region.
