At least six people, including six children, died in a fire at a hospital in Chennai. The death toll is expected to rise. However, 30 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital have been safely evacuated. On Thursday midnight, locals saw fire and black smoke coming out of the hospital in the Trichy Road area of Chennai. The hospital authorities informed the fire department. The rescue team also arrived. The patients were rescued and admitted to the district hospital.
When the rescue operation was nearing its end, several people were rescued unconscious from inside the hospital lift. When they were rushed to the hospital, the doctors declared six of them dead. Some are still undergoing treatment. It is initially believed that the six died of smoke inhalation after the fire broke out. The CCTV camera showed flames and black smoke coming out of the hospital. Initially, the police and the fire department believe that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. Incidentally, in November, 11 newborns died in a fire at Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh.
