Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended heartfelt greetings to the press and media fraternity on the occasion of National Press Day, recognizing their vital role in strengthening democracy and promoting transparency. In his message, Tamang hailed the press as “the lifeblood of democracy,” emphasizing its integral contribution to ensuring truth reaches the public and holding power to account. “Journalists dedicate themselves to uncovering stories that matter, giving voice to the voiceless, and shaping public opinion with integrity and courage,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister also praised the unwavering commitment of journalists, highlighting their efforts to inform, educate, and empower society. He noted that the work of the press is foundational to democratic values such as justice and truth, stating, “A free and responsible press is the foundation of a vibrant democracy, and its role in safeguarding justice and truth cannot be overstated.”
National Press Day, observed annually on November 16, celebrates the principles of a free and responsible press, marking the establishment of the Press Council of India. The day serves as a reminder of the press’s essential role in a functioning democracy.
