A West Bengal agriculture worker who came to Tamil Nadu in search of work died on Thursday from acute renal failure. At the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital the guest worker was hospitalized. Samar Khan, a 35-year-old worker, died on October 1. He was transported to RGGGH in an unconscious state with complaints of vomiting and diarrhea, most likely caused by an intestinal infection from swallowing contaminated food or water, according to the doctor.
The senior medical official stated that the migrant worker’s death was not due to malnutrition because the worker grilled fish throughout their roughly three-four-day stay at the railway station. Khan, one of five workers admitted to the government facility by the Railway Police on September 16, had dialysis seven times and was ventilator-supported. On Wednesday, his remains was flown to his hometown of Purba in Midnipur district.
When the railway police discovered the five sick workers at the Central Station here, they were admitted to RGGGH. Four of them were discharged after recovering, but Samar Khan died. According to authorities, the 11 laborers walked all the way to Ponneri in search of an agricultural job, then returned to the Central Station when they were unable to find work and opted to return home.
