BRO builds a new Bailey bridge in Zeema, North Sikkim

According to an official announcement, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has built a new bailey bridge at Zeema in the Mangan district of Sikkim, reestablishing road connectivity to the China border along the Lachen valley. The important Bailey Bridge at Zeema, North Sikkim, was damaged on May 29 of this year by flash floods in the Lachen Chu river. According to a BRO statement, work on a new Bailey Bridge under project Swastik began on August 24 and was finished in less than a month on September 16.

The crucial Bailey Bridge’s construction will make it possible for the military forces stationed in the area near China’s border as well as the local population to maintain their logistical needs. According to the announcement, it would also increase tourism in North Sikkim by reopening the important tourist destination Gurdongmarg Lake, which has been closed to vehicles since October of last year.
