Sikkim showcases tourism vision at Shillong conference, emphasizes strategic growth

Sikkim’s commitment to bolstering its tourism sector took center stage at the North-Eastern and Eastern Tourism Ministers Conference held in Shillong today. The event, presided over by Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, brought together key regional leaders and senior officials to discuss strategies for enhancing tourism across the region. Leading the Sikkim delegation, Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation Tshering Thendup Bhutia highlighted the state’s strategic vision under the guidance of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay). Bhutia emphasized Sikkim’s goal to establish itself as a premier year-round destination, promoting equitable distribution of tourism benefits and driving socio-economic development.

Accompanying the minister were Pr. Secretary C.S. Rao (IFS), Additional Director N.T. Bhutia, Deputy Director Prashant Pakhrin, and Media Consultant Laxmi Prasad Sharma. The conference saw active participation from tourism ministers and senior officials from various North-Eastern and Eastern states, all focusing on regional collaboration to enhance tourism prospects.

Pr. Secretary C.S. Rao delivered an in-depth presentation on Sikkim’s tourism initiatives, including plans for iconic tourist centers, marketing strategies, and investment opportunities. Rao also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve cleanliness and tourist safety, reinforcing Sikkim’s dedication to enhancing its tourism infrastructure and promoting alternative destinations.
