A call for unity in Sikkim football: overcoming obstacles for true progress

The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) motto, “Indian Football, Forward Together,” symbolizes a vision of collective advancement and unity in football’s development across India. However, in Sikkim, this vision seems increasingly distant. Despite the earnest efforts to nurture local talent and advance the sport, the local football association often acts as a stumbling block rather than a supportive partner.

Football Development Private Limited, supported by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, launched the Sikkim Premier League with the aim of genuinely developing football in the region. This initiative reflects our dedication to advancing the sport despite facing significant obstacles.

Nirmal Chettri, former Indian footballer and a member of the Board of Directors at FDPL, highlights the issue: “Our commitment is unwavering. We are determined to push forward and ensure football flourishes in Sikkim, despite the hindrances posed by the local football association.” He emphasizes that true progress in Sikkim football will only be achieved when all stakeholders align their goals and collaborate towards the common purpose of developing the sport.

Chettri calls for a shift in approach: “To let football truly thrive, we must set aside personal egos and focus on the larger goal of nurturing the sport for the benefit of everyone. Only through unity and shared objectives can we see Sikkim football progress.”
