Kargil Diwas: Northeast states celebrate ‘Rajat Jayanti’ with tribute events

The Indian Army commemorated the 25th anniversary of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ with a series of events across Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, and Manipur from July 20 to 26, 2024. The observance, marking the ‘Rajat Jayanti’ or silver jubilee of the historic victory, honored the bravery and sacrifices of Kargil heroes and fostered a spirit of patriotism throughout the Northeast.

In Manipur, Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Red Shield Division, paid tribute at the War Memorial in Leimakhong Military Station on July 26. The ceremony included a tree plantation drive in memory of the martyrs, a display of army weapons, and a performance by the Army band. Art and craft competitions allowed children to express their views on the Kargil War, and a football tournament in Moirang added to the celebrations.

Nagaland observed the day with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Zakhama Military Station, followed by the felicitation of veterans. In Assam, ‘A Day with Company Commander’ events were held at Kakopathar, Pengeri, and Tipong Army camps in Tinsukia district. Activities included flag hoisting, team-building games, and a screening of a patriotic movie. Tributes were also paid to the parents of Kargil War Hero Captain Jintu Gogoi in Golaghat district on July 19.

Tripura commemorated the silver jubilee with multiple events in Agartala, including a felicitation ceremony for 12 ‘Veer Naris’ and ‘Veer Matas’ on July 20. The week-long campaign featured screenings of patriotic films, lectures at local schools, and concluded with a wreath-laying ceremony at Albert Ekka Park, where Army officials and dignitaries honored the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice.
