The annual ‘Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2024’ kicked off with great enthusiasm at the Himalayan Zoological Park, marked by a flag-off ceremony led by Mr. Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Minister of the Forest and Environment Department. The event, observed from July 1 to July 14, aims to promote environmental consciousness under the theme “Leave a Green Legacy.” Activities commenced with the Green Ride initiation by the Chief Guest, Minister Pintso Namgyal Lepcha. Participants engaged in various events including cycling, Zumba sessions, a Green walkathon, and the Mastermen 10km run for participants aged 45 and above. Minister Lepcha himself participated in the Greenathon, reflecting his commitment to environmental conservation.
Accompanied by dignitaries such as Dr. Pradeep Kumar, Secretary of the Forest and Environment Department, and Dr. Sandeep Tambe from the Science and Technology Department, the event celebrated winners across different categories. Notable achievers included Jaswant Saroj and Anjali Subha, who claimed top honors in the 10km run categories for men and women respectively.
In addition to recognizing winners with mementoes and cash prizes, the event also honored 12-year-old Karma Pintso Chopel Bhutia as the youngest cyclist, receiving a consolation prize. All participants were acknowledged with mementoes for their participation. A signature campaign was a significant highlight, encouraging participants to pledge their commitment to sustainable practices and environmental protection. Dr. Pradeep Kumar administered the pledge, emphasizing the role of individual actions in fostering a greener future.
