Rajganj, June 29: A truck carrying Bhutan coal from Rajasthan overturned at Jyotiakali intersection on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway (NH) late on Friday night. The accident happened around 11 pm. at night due to bad condition of the road.
Reportedly, the driver who was injured in the incident was rescued and taken to a private hospital in Phulbari. After receiving information about the accident, local officials including New Jalpaiguri police reached the spot.
Eyewitnesses and local drivers attributed the accident to the poor condition of the 4 km long highway between Jyotiyakali and Phulbari, which has been in a dilapidated condition for a long time. He emphasized that such accidents happen frequently and demanded immediate repairs to ensure road safety.
