Sikkim’s Mangan schools shut amid landslide aftermath

In response to safety concerns arising from severe damage and road blockages due to relentless rainfall, the Mangan district administration has swiftly ordered the closure of all government schools across the district.

District Magistrate Hem Kumar Chettri issued the order, announcing the immediate closure of schools in Manul, Singhik, Mangan, Mangshilla clusters of Mangan block, as well as Lingdong, Hee Gyathang, Passingdong, Lingzya, Tingvong, and Gor clusters of Dzongu block.

The decision, prompted by the unsafe conditions exacerbated by continuous heavy rainfall since June 12, aims to safeguard students, staff, and school infrastructure. The closure will remain effective until further notice.

“The heads and staff of schools are directed to remain stationed,” the order emphasized, highlighting the gravity of the situation caused by multiple landslides and severed connectivity in Mangan district.
