In a recent election rally speech, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang denounced the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) for fueling communal discord in the state, emphasizing the imperative of peace during the electoral phase. Addressing attendees at the ‘Vijay Bhava: Jan Sabha’ campaign event across various constituencies, including Barfung, Rangang-Yangang, Timi Namphing, and Tumin Lingee, Chief Minister Tamang reiterated his party’s staunch commitment to fostering tranquility and condemned all forms of violence.
“We, the SKM party, stand firm in our dedication to peace and vehemently oppose any acts of aggression,” declared Chief Minister Tamang. “I have directed the state administration and law enforcement to take decisive action against those perpetrating violence during the electoral process.” Accusing the opposition of peddling divisive narratives, Chief Minister Tamang expressed disgust at the purported communal rhetoric propagated by the SDF. “The SDF’s dissemination of communal discourse and incitement of violence is reprehensible,” he declared. “Their promotion of discriminatory ideologies, such as advocating against inter-community marriages, is deplorable and contradicts the principles of equality and solidarity.”
Emphasizing his administration’s accomplishments and aspirations, Chief Minister Tamang pledged to eradicate caste divides in the state and foster an inclusive society. “We are committed to building a ‘Sunaolo Sikkim, Samriddhi Sikkim’ where every community is treated with parity,” he asserted. Addressing allegations of being branded a “Gunda” (thug) by the opposition, Chief Minister Tamang urged party members to stand resolute in their mission to serve the populace. “They seek to provoke us, but we must not waver,” he urged.
