Sikkim Governor engages Delhi University students in inspirational session

The Governor of Sikkim, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, recently participated in an engaging interactive session with students from the Department of Geography at Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi University, who were on an educational tour in Sikkim. The session took place at Raj Bhavan. Welcoming the Hon’ble Governor, Smt. Poonam Kumariya, the Principal of IP College for Women, extended warm greetings and introduced the distinguished college. Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya highlighted the significance of Navratri, which marks the Indian New Year, emphasizing the reverence for the devis and expressing gratitude for meeting the daughters who symbolize the emancipation of “Devis” themselves. He underlined the respect accorded to women in Indian culture, where their dignity signifies divine presence and fosters peace and prosperity in society.

Governor Acharya emphasized the pivotal role of women in nation-building and societal development. He commended India’s leadership in safeguarding women’s rights and acknowledged Sikkim’s contribution to this effort. Encouraging students to focus on disaster research for early detection and public awareness, Governor Acharya urged them to embrace new ideas to steer India towards development by 2047. He cited recent disasters in Sikkim as examples of resilience and determination in overcoming obstacles, encouraging students to emulate this spirit in their pursuit of knowledge.

During the session, Ms. Riya Khatri delivered an insightful talk titled “Mere Sapnon ka Bharat,” highlighting the role of individual dreams in India’s collective progress. Ms. Ajanta Mukhia shared perspectives on Sikkim’s contribution to India’s development through her presentation titled “A Student’s Perspective on Sikkim’s Contribution to India’s Progress.” The event was enriched by a soul-stirring musical performance titled “Ae Watan,” presented by Ms. Renu Choudhary, Ms. Tanishka Beniwal, Ms. Riya Papnai, and Ms. Manisha. Ms. Milan Dhaka provided a concise overview of their trip, sparking discussions on patriotism and national development.
