The Ujaas Menstrual Health Express, an initiative by the Aditya Birla Education Trust, has embarked on a transformative journey spanning from Mumbai to Darjeeling. This groundbreaking endeavor, spearheaded by Ms. Advaitesha Birla, Founder of Ujaas, seeks to drive awareness and provide free sanitary pads to communities across 25 states in India.
Having covered significant ground, including states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, the Express has now reached the scenic locales of Darjeeling, West Bengal. Teaming up with esteemed local NGO partner Bhavishya Bharat, Ujaas has launched an extensive campaign, comprising community outreach programs and the distribution of menstrual hygiene products. The initiative’s strategic approach involves not only raising awareness but also gathering essential data on cultural beliefs and practices related to menstruation. This data will inform targeted interventions to dispel taboos and myths surrounding menstrual health.
With a specially designed Menstrual Health Express Van leading the charge, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact, covering over 20,000 kilometers by road and distributing more than 250,000 menstrual pads nationwide. Ms. Advaitesha Birla emphasizes that the Ujaas Menstrual Health Express is not merely a vehicle but a symbol of societal change, advocating for menstrual health as a fundamental right.
