MK Subba, Chief Spokesperson of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party, announced that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the sale of shares of Teesta Urja Limited has been accepted in the Sikkim High Court. The PIL challenges the government’s decision to sell shares of Teesta Urja Limited, now known as Sikkim Urja Limited, during a cabinet meeting, alleging a significant breach of Sikkim’s Hydro Power policy and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
According to Subba, the PIL contends that the sale of shares was conducted without adhering to the established protocols outlined in Sikkim’s Hydro Power policy and the terms of the MOU. This purported violation raises concerns regarding the transparency and legality of the transaction.
The acceptance of the PIL by the Sikkim High Court signals a significant development in the ongoing controversy surrounding the sale of Teesta Urja Limited shares. It reflects a growing demand for accountability and adherence to regulatory frameworks governing the state’s hydroelectric projects.
