Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for announcing numerous projects across the country, from reducing the price of cooking gas by Rs 100 in the run-up to the polls. Forget the accusations of not being able to keep some of Modi’s promises like creating two crore jobs a year, depositing Rs 15 lakh in the country’s account or reducing fuel prices.
The Center on Friday announced a reduction in gas prices by Rs 100 amid questions over steep price hikes and increasing financial burden on the poor. As a result, LPG cylinder of 14.2 kg is being bought for 829 rupees in Kolkata. Poor families under Ujjwala Yojana will spend Rs 509.43 per cylinder. The opposition camp has already raised this allegation that despite the reduction in the price of LPG in the global market several days ago, the reason for delaying its benefits to the countrymen is to get benefits at the ballot box.
He also expressed his anger over the reduction of only 100 rupees. In a meeting with reporters on Saturday, Chidambaram said in a tone of sarcasm, this time the Prime Minister should give an assurance to the countrymen that if he returns to power in the Lok Sabha polls, the price of gas will not increase.
