Aditya Birla Education Trust’s Ujaas initiative, led by Founder Ms. Advaitesha Birla, has launched a campaign to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene in Sikkim. The initiative, which covers cities of Soreng and Geyzing, is collaborating with local NGO partner Bhavishya Bharat to reach out to adolescent girls and women through schools, healthcare centers, government colleges, and local communities.
The campaign aims to drive awareness, dismantle taboos, and foster positive conversations about menstrual health and hygiene. In the first phase, Ujaas conducted age-appropriate awareness sessions and distributed sanitary napkins. The initiative aims to bring positive change and empowerment in the region.
‘Ujaas Menstrual Health Express’ the initiative, the first of its kind in India, will cover 25 states and 107 cities. The Menstrual Health Express Van will navigate diverse regions and communities, engaging with local NGOs to gain insights into the rich tapestry of cultures, practices, and beliefs surrounding menstruation. The campaign aims to distribute over 250,000 menstrual pads nationwide, reflecting Ujaas’ commitment to empowering women and creating a positive impact within communities. Ms. Advaitesha Birla, the Founder of Ujaas, expressed, “We have completed impactful educational workshops in multiple cities, and our presence in Sikkim marks another stride towards dispelling myths surrounding menstruation.” Further he said, “This program strives to encourage empowerment and transformation, paving the way for a more inclusive and enlightened future.”
