Prem Singh Tamang, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, unveiled a number of programs on March 4th to honor and uplift the state’s creative community. The announcement was made in Gangtok during the Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan. ‘Sikkim Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan’ will now be celebrated on March 4 annually in an effort to pay tribute to and appreciate creative contributions. This yearly event will provide an opportunity to recognize artistic accomplishments and promote a feeling of camaraderie among artists.

Speaking, the Chief Minister referred to artists as the state’s gems and discussed their priceless contributions to Sikkim’s cultural heritage. “One has to work hard to become an artist,” he said, expressing the government’s commitment to protecting and developing their abilities. It requires a great deal of effort and commitment. I bow before all of Sikkim’s artists, regardless of their medium.” Tamang pledged to create a system that would allow artists to voice their complaints and request help, highlighting the difficulties they confront and the need for government support. In addition to proposing government support and involvement, he promised to address issues ranging from underappreciated talent to financial hardships encountered by artists.

Reiterating the government’s support for artists, Chief Minister Tamang called for coordinated efforts to realize the common goal of “Sunaulo Sikkim, Samriddha Sikkim” (Beautiful Sikkim, Prosperous Sikkim). Chief Minister Tamang also disclosed additional funding for the creative sector. The state’s creative groups would receive an annual donation of Rs. 5 lakh from the government. To further close the gap between artists and the government, a special committee would be established to address the issues brought up by artists during the Sammelan. The administration is dedicated to fostering and identifying Sikkim’s artistic talent, according to Chief Minister Tamang. In addition to highlighting the role that artists play in forming the culture of the state, he pledged to support their professional development by offering incentives and resources.
