Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang unveiled a significant interim budget for the upcoming six months, spanning from April to September 2024, totaling Rs 6,073.25 crore. Presenting the vote on account in the assembly, Tamang, who also heads the finance department, detailed allocations amounting to Rs 4,802.90 crore on revenue account and Rs 1,270.35 crore on the capital account, earmarked to cover diverse expenditures of the state government during this period.
The assembly session, presided over by Speaker Arun Kumar Upreti, scheduled discussions and voting on the interim budget for Saturday. Additionally, the CM introduced the second supplementary demand for grants, amounting to Rs 134.79 crore, to address extra expenditures in the fiscal year 2023-24, which received unanimous approval via voice vote.
Amidst legislative proceedings, Education Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha presented the Sikkim Pannadhay University Bill, 2024, and the Nirmala Devi University Bill, 2024, aiming to establish two self-financed private universities. Detailed deliberations and voting on these bills are slated for Saturday’s session as well.
