During the Jan Bharosha Sammelan held at Saramsa Garden for Mangan and Gangtok districts, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang highlighted the significant milestone achieved by the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) administration in ensuring equitable representation for Sangha constituency in the state’s cabinet, a contrast to the approach of the previous Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government. Tamang underscored the historical neglect endured by Sangha constituency in the allocation of cabinet posts, emphasizing that prior to the SKM government’s tenure, no winning candidate from Sangha had been granted a cabinet position. He pointed out this discrepancy as a violation of Article 371F, which guarantees special provisions for Sikkim, including fair representation in government.
The Chief Minister recounted the SKM government’s decision to rectify this disparity by appointing a cabinet minister from Sangha constituency in 2019, breaking the longstanding pattern of neglect. He reiterated the importance of upholding Article 371F, recognizing Sangha constituency’s significance within the state’s political framework.
Tamang reaffirmed the SKM government’s dedication to the welfare of Sangha constituency residents, citing the implementation of tailored schemes and initiatives to address their specific needs. He emphasized the integral role of Sangha constituency in Sikkim, deserving of equitable opportunities and benefits like other constituencies. Under the SKM administration, Tamang noted, Sangha constituency residents now have direct access to government schemes without the inconvenience of navigating through other constituencies.
