In a landmark move geared towards fostering environmental consciousness and financial resilience, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang of Sikkim introduced the ‘Sikkim Sishu Samriddhi Yojna.’ This pioneering scheme, unveiled during the Jan Bharosha Sammelan 2024 for Yuksam – Tashiding, Yangthang, Maneybong-Dentam, and Gyalshing – Burmiok constituencies in the Gyalshing district, signifies a significant leap towards securing a prosperous future for the state’s youngest denizens.
Under the ambit of the ‘Sikkim Sishu Samriddhi Yojna,’ parents will undertake the symbolic gesture of planting 108 saplings upon the birth of their child, aligning with the ethos of environmental sustainability encapsulated in the ‘Mero Ruk Mero Santati’ initiative. Concurrently, a corpus of Rs 10,800 will be deposited in the newborn’s name, nurturing financial security for their forthcoming endeavors. However, access to this fund will be granted only upon the child attaining 18 years of age, ensuring a sustained investment in their welfare.
The announcement resonated within a series of meticulously organized events orchestrated by the Rural Development Department of the Government of Sikkim, emblematic of the administration’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development and communal well-being. Chief Minister Tamang, during these gatherings, distributed tokens signifying participation in various schemes, encompassing the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana, housing upgradation initiatives, provision of inverters, support for start-up ventures, and assistance under the Aaama scheme. Additionally, tokens facilitating access to essential resources such as irrigation water tanks, pipes, power tillers, and resource recovery vehicles were disbursed to eligible beneficiaries.
