Sikkim cabinet’s landmark decision; 22,746 posts created to regularize temporary employment

In a landmark decision, the Sikkim Cabinet convened on February 20th to address the employment status of individuals engaged in various departments on a temporary basis, creating a total of 22,746 posts. These positions aim to formalize the employment of workers currently serving under different arrangements such as M.R. basis, Adhoc Basis, Contractual Basis, and more.

The initiative extends to diverse sectors, including employees under One Family One Job (OFOJ) scheme, Consolidated Pay, Centrally Sponsored Schemes, and projects under the Forest Department such as Campa and JICA. Additionally, workers from sectors like Home Guards, Village Guards, Nurses, ICDS-Anganwadi Workers and helpers, and ASHA Workers are also included in this regularization effort under the Department of Personnel (DoP), Govt. of Sikkim.

Furthermore, the Education department will see the regularization of 1,948 posts, covering Pre-Primary, Primary, Graduate, and Post-Graduate Teachers. These measures come as a culmination of the government’s commitment, announced on February 9th, 2024, to regularize temporary employees who have completed four years of service by December 31st, 2023.

Chief Minister in an official statement shared on his Facebook page, reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting underprivileged families and providing employment opportunities for sustainable economic growth. He stated the vision of ensuring every member of such families secures a livelihood, contributing to societal flourishing and prosperity.
