Indian Army hosts football tournament in Sikkim as part of ‘project unity’

In a proactive move to foster youth empowerment, the Black Cat Division of the Indian Army, led by Brigadier Kunal Mukherjee, inaugurated a highly anticipated 17-day football tournament as a component of ‘Project Unity’ in Sikkim. Brigadier Mukherjee emphasized that this initiative is not merely a singular event but a sustained effort, affirming the Indian Army’s commitment to long-term collaboration with the local community for enduring progress. The tournament, spanning a duration of 12 days, features the participation of seven teams competing for both victory and the esteemed championship trophy.

Brigadier Mukherjee underscored the significance of encouraging students to excel in sports, envisioning them as prospective athletes representing Sikkim on national platforms.The organization of the tournament is being spearheaded by the artillery regiment under the 341 Field Regiment, under the coordination of the Black Cat Division. Brigadier Mukherjee expressed optimism that the tournament would serve as a catalyst, motivating parents to actively engage their children in sports, recognizing its pivotal role in fostering holistic development.

Looking forward, Brigadier Mukherjee announced a series of upcoming initiatives aimed at augmenting infrastructure and promoting community welfare throughout Sikkim. Planned inaugurations include two water management projects and a community development hall in the Changu vicinity, with additional endeavors slated for the Forward Villages in March.
