Chief Minister of Sikkim is looking for the help of North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) after a Destructive flood knocked in the State

Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang attended the North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) Community Meeting in Shillong on 19th of January this year where he mentioned the critical role of Space Technology in Sikkim’s overall Development and addressed acute issues including the after-effects of a recent disastrous landslide-induced flood.

Throw back on the recent natural disaster, Chief minister highlighted the importance of collective resilience and sought NESAC’s assistance in studying the redesigned course of the River Teesta. Additionally, he addressed the vulnerability of 14 glacial lakes in Sikkim, urging NESAC to utilize high-resolution satellite data for timely monitoring and response to potential threats.

Expressing gratitude for NESAC’s support, Chief Minister Tamang highlighted collaborative projects such as Swasth Mann and forest cover monitoring that showcase joint efforts to enhance mental health care, modernize agriculture and manage spatial data in the region. Highlighting Sikkim’s commitment to organic farming, Chief Minister requested NESAC’s assistance in high-resolution soil mapping for better understanding and empowering farmers with precise information.
